 Course: Introductory Physical Chemistry:  CHEM. 3203

 

Course Description: Topics include the gas laws, kinetic-molecular theory, thermodynamics,

equilibrium, kinetics, electrochemistry, and quantum chemistry. Will not apply toward major codes 614, Chemistry ASC Certificate or 616, Chemistry. 

 

Prerequisites:  CHEM. 2104, 2203 and PHY 1114 (previously PHY 1113 and 1101).

Course Objectives: Students, upon completion of this course, will have gained exposure and practice in areas of physical chemistry which include gas and liquid properties, thermodynamics, kinetics, quantum mechanics, spectroscopy and statistical mechanics. Computer numerical and statistical techniques will be utilized in order to solve non-ideal physical problems.

Other Resources:.  The student will also need a scientific calculator for in-class problem solving and exams. Available to the student will be the chemistry department computer laboratory located in HOH318.

 

Evaluation: Final grades will be based on the results of 5 regular classroom exams and a final examination.  There will be no make-up exams once exams have been graded and returned. In the event of an emergency contact the instructor as to the best and most fair course of action for your individual circumstances. If you know in advance that you will miss an exam, arrangements can be made to take the exam early.
