Course: General Chemistry, CHEM. 1223

 

Course Description: This course is a continuation of CHEM 1103. Topics covered in this course include properties of solutions, chemical kinetics, equilibria, second and third laws of thermodynamics, redox equations, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry and aspects of descriptive chemistry. 

 

Prerequisites:  CHEM 1103 with a minimum grade of "C"and concurrent enrollment in CHEM 1232

Office Hours: M, W, F - 10:00 a.m.-10:50 a.m., T - 10:00 a.m.- 11:50 a.m.by Appointment.

 

Course Objectives: Students, upon completion of this course, will have gained exposure and practice in the basic language and operation of chemistry.

 

Class time: 9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. M, W, F.

Evaluation: Final grades will be based on the results of 5 regular classroom exams and a final examination. In the event of a serious illness or emergency only, one exam grade, not including the Final Exam, may be discarded.  No other grades will be discarded and there will be no make-up quizzes or exams. Grades will be assigned based on the following percentages:

Audit: Students desiring to audit this course will be assessed a satisfactory grade by maintaining a letter grade of “C” or better.

 

Attendance:  Attendance to all classes is expected. No make-up exams will be given.

 

Quality of Written Work: All submitted assignments and exams must conform to standards discussed in class and in the provided handout and example. Work not adhering to strict standards of neatness, organization and grammar will not be graded and will subsequently be marked as missing
