Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will have gained exposure and practice in the gathering and analysis of physical data. Techniques used will include calorimetry, vacuum techniques, computer interfacing, gas handling and computer techniques. Analysis will involve Calculus analysis, numerical and computer techniques.

Class Time: 2:00 p.m. – 5:50 p.m. Tuesday

Course Text: Material Provided

Other Resources: Each group will be required to set up an account at LabArchives, an online electronic notebook system. All laboratory work will be carried out on this site. All lab teams will keep an electronic laboratory notebook via Lab Archives ELN system. See Experimental_Physical_Chemistry Lab_Notebook for more details.

Evaluation: Grades will be distributed based on performance on several laboratory reports covering the laboratories listed below. Grades will be assigned roughly based on the following percentage breakdown:

Weighting: Grade Distribution:
Quality and Accuracy of Laboratories 30% A – 85%
Notebook 30% B – 70%
Developmental Lab Final 40% C – 55%
    D – 40%

Laboratory: Equipment is stored in the laboratory. You have the laboratory available for your use as long as there is some supervision. It is your place and will be kept clean. All equipment has a place and needs to be replaced unless an experiment is in progress. Any vials of sample material must be labeled with a name and a data or it will be discarded immediately. No grades will be issued until the laboratory is clean.

Course Schedule: The laboratory schedule, assignments are all posted. See Lab_Assignments for more.

Topical Coverage
The order and content of this course will follow the lecture text. Topical content list.

Attendance and Make-up Policy: The laboratory class is scheduled on a single lab day. You may work in the laboratory at other time through specific approval. There is no make-up time.

Late Work: Laboratory notebooks are due the second Saturday by midnight after the lab is completed. Late labs will be charged 20% reduction every week that the lab is overdue.

Submitted Work: All work submitted for a grade must adhere to standards commensurate with work at the University level. See the Homework Guide for specific information.

Audit: Students desiring to audit this course will be assessed a satisfactory grade by maintaining a letter grade of “C” or better.

Additional:

Course Dissemination: This course will use "Teams" from the MIcrosoft Suite to meet at the scheduled class time Monday through Wednesday. On Thursday, exams will be posted in D2L at class time with a 2 hour time limit.

UCO COVID-19 Policies

Mask wearing: Consistent with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance for areas of substantial or high COVID-19 transmission, the University of Central Oklahoma recommends that all individuals wear a mask covering the mouth and nose when in public indoor spaces such as classrooms, laboratories, studio spaces, the library, the Nigh University Center, enclosed athletic facilities, and other shared indoor spaces on campus. While mask wearing is not required, the university encourages all members of the university community to follow the guidelines issued by the CDC. This guidance may be revised at any point during the semester.

--------------------------------

The University of Central Oklahoma has implemented recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (the CDC) pertaining to COVID-19 on university campuses and will require students to cover their nose and mouth with an approved cloth face cover or disposable surgical-type face mask when on UCO properties. This means all students will be required to wear a face cover at all times in classrooms, hallways and public spaces. Reasonable accommodations may be available for students with diagnosed medical conditions, and must be coordinated through the UCO office of Disability Support Services. UCO will provide every student a UCO-branded cloth cover at the beginning of the semester and a limited supply of disposable masks will be available in each classroom building for those occasions when students or visitors forget their personal cloth face cover. Students who refuse to wear a cloth face cover or repeatedly forget their face cover will be subject to disciplinary action under the UCO Student Handbook and to the consequences associated with any loss of instruction. Remember slowing the spread of the virus is a community effort and will take everyone’s cooperation and support.
